What if it's too cold to camp in winter?

If it's not so cold at night, would you like to camp more? Maybe you already like camping very much, but you hate rainy and cold weather instead of travel? When you have a winter camping tent with a stove jack, you can heat your tent safely and quickly without the trouble or danger of connecting an extension cable to your tent.

Then, please look at the most suitable winter tent for you this winter!

Preself 4 Person Lightweight Tipi Hot Tent

Floor space: ~132.7 sq ft
Doors: 1
Peak height: 7’3’’
Weight: 5 lbs
Capacity: 2-4 people

The Preself 4 Person Lightweight Tipi Hot Tent is a 2-4 person backpacking tent with a quick setup. This is one of the best tents for camping in the backcountry as it’s a small and lightweight tent with a stove jack.

This winter tent is made of waterproof polyester (2000mm rating) and, a feature unusual to backpacking tents, has a very tall peak height (7’3’’).

The diameter of this tent is 13’, which makes the total square feet inside the tent around 132.7 square feet.

Keep in mind, however, that the tipi design means the slanted walls eat up a lot of that usable floor space. There may be plenty of space for sitting and sleeping, but don’t plan on having a dance party in here.

This tent doesn’t include a floor either, but that’s somewhat expected for lightweight tents. The tipi design is still a good shape for withstanding wind and rain, and you can always bury the edges of the tent in the snow to keep them anchored down.

Finally, this tent is made of flame retardant material which self-extinguishes fire. This is a very important feature in a backpacking tent since you may be sleeping close to the woodstove.
PROS

Good waterproof rating (2000mm)
Lightweight
Tall peak height
Flame retardant material

CONS

Floor is not included

Pomoly HEX Plus Hot Tent

Doors: 1
Peak height: 8.83 ft
Weight: 15.0 lbs
Capacity: 4, 5, or 6 person options

The Pomoly HEX Plus Hot Tent is a waterproof tipi-style family camping tent with a stove jack.
I rate this as a family camping tent because it’s small and lightweight enough not to be a huge burden to those with kids. It also offers just enough space for a small family (although you may want two tents if you have more than 1-2 kids).

The tent packs up neatly into a 2 x 8-inch bag and is made of waterproof 300D silver coated Oxford material. 300D is a very strong fabric rating if you’re not familiar with the denier system. This amount of fabric thickness also adds insulation to the tent and is easy to clean.

The stove jack is 4.7-5.5 inches in diameter, which accommodates most tent stoves and the roof vents are all the way around the top of the tent. You can also remove the top “cap” portion of the tent for extra ventilation.

The Pomoly HEX Plus Tent doesn’t have mesh windows (or any windows) but has the option to purchase an extra inner mesh liner. This tent also doesn’t have a floor, but with the stove inside, it should help keep the ground dry.

Lastly, the center pole design was redone in 2021 to be thicker (28mm from 25mm) and is made of aluminum alloy (a good mix of strength and lightweight). The tent pegs were also replaced with aluminum alloy to make them lighter and stronger.

PROS

Lightweight
Very durable 300D material
Good for family cold weather camping
Improved hardware as of 2021

CONS

No floor (although this doesn’t have to be a huge problem)

Seek Outside 4 Person Tipi

Floor space: 115 sq ft
Doors: 1
Peak height: 6’10’’
Weight: 4 lbs 12oz
Capacity: 2-4 people

The Seek Outside 4 Person Tipi is a super lightweight backpacking tent with a stove jack and is my pick for the best hot tent for backpacking.

Like most of the tents on this list, this tent comes in bigger and smaller sizes, and you can choose the size of the liner you want, making this tent highly customizable.

The Seek Outside 4 Person Tipi doesn’t come with a floor, but as with the OneTigris backpacking tent above, this isn’t really a problem for most tents with a stove inside.

This is because the stove helps dry the ground out, and you can also easily put down a ground tarp, or in this case, purchase a tent liner.

The stove jack on the Seek Outside tent is made with lightweight fiberglass lining. This can withstand several thousand degrees of heat, which is one of the reasons I chose it as my top pick for backpacking.

The Seek Outside company offers a few nice accessories that are available for purchase as well.

You can buy two different sizes of tent liners that help keep the condensation off you, a ground tarp, reflective guy lines (nice for helping to avoid tripping over them), and twisted stakes that stay in the ground better than straight stakes.

This is a specialty tent for hot tenting but it’s also an all-weather tent. Without the stove inside, you can also sleep more people in the shelter.

Finally, this tent is very lightweight and the center pole is made from carbon fiber (a super lightweight material), which makes it ideal for backpacking.

PROS

Very lightweight
Durable
Highly flame-resistant stove jack
Lots of accessories to customize to your needs
Option for a liner

CONS

Expensive (but you get what you pay for)

OneTigris Iron Wall Stove Tent

Floor space: 86.6 sq ft
Doors: 1
Peak height: 5.2 feet
Weight: 4.2 lbs
Capacity: 1-2 people
The OneTigris Iron Wall Stove Tent is a lightweight backpacking tent with an inner tent/outer tent design, where the inner tent is made of mesh. I recently used this tent for winter backpacking with a tent stove and it worked great.

The outer fabric is made of 20D silicone-coated nylon with a 2000mm waterproof rating. The zippers are high quality (YKK brand) and the center pole is made of aluminum (so it’s nice and lightweight).

There are also two roof vents for insulation and lots of tie-outs to help keep the tent in one place during windy nights.

I didn’t use the inner mesh tent while camping. Rather, I spread down a separate waterproof floor sheet that I bought separately and buried the edges of the outer tent with snow.

This tent is very lightweight, yet the material holds up just fine even if it’s continuously snowing.

One criticism I have of hot tents that aren’t spacious wall tents: you have to be very careful how many people you fit into a tent with a stove. Case in point – I accidentally left my backpack too close to the stove and it still has a burn hole in it to this day.

PROS

Waterproof material
Quality YKK zippers
Lightweight yet strong
Great for backpacking

CONS

Small size requires extra caution if using a stove

Conclusion

If you buy a tent with a stove roof in the market, this page should help you make a purchase decision. There are many great choices, some of which are not very good. If you are on these tents (or anything else!) If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to comment here.
